Acupuncture, Stabilizing Exercises and Pelvic Girdle Pain
In a randomized, single-blind study published in the British Medical Journal (2005; 331(7511): 249-50), 386 pregnant women with pelvic girdle pain were divided into three groups. One group was given standard treatment. Another was given standard treatment plus acupuncture. A third group was given standard treatment plus stabilizing exercises. After six weeks of treatment, the group receiving the acupuncture and the group receiving stabilizing exercises did better than the group receiving standard treatment alone. When compared to the group doing the exercise, the acupuncture group had less pain in the evening.
